A company was hiring new staff. One question in the written exam was:
You are driving your car in a wild stormy night. You pass by a bus station, and you see three people waiting for the bus: -

An old lady who looks as if she is about to die,
A doctor who had once saved your life,
A man/woman you have been dreaming to be with.
You can only take one passenger in your car. Which one will you choose?

Think about it before you continue reading.

This must be some kind of personality test. Every answer has its reasoning.
You could pick up the old lady. She is going to die, and thus you should save her first. You could take the doctor, because he once saved your life. This will be the perfect chance to pay him back. However, you could always pay the doctor back in the future, but you may never be able to find the perfect lover once you pass this chance.

The candidate who was eventually hired (out of 200 applicants) did not have to explain his answer. WHAT DID HE SAY?

He simply answered:
“Give the car key to the doctor. Let him take the old lady to the hospital. I will stay and wait for the bus with the man/woman of my dreams.”

Sometimes, we would gain more if we were able to give up our stubborn limitations.

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the
room’s only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation.
Every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window. The man in the other bed began to live for those one-hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity
and color of the world outside. The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.
As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene.
One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man couldn’t hear the band – he could see it. In his mind’s eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words. Days and weeks passed.
One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep. She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away. As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be
moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was
comfortable, she left him alone. Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his
first look at the real world outside. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside the bed.
It faced a blank wall. The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window.
The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall.
She said, “Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.”

Epilogue:
“There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations”
“Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled”
“If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can’t buy”
“Today is a gift, that’s why it is called the present.”

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him, and every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming.

Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements, and to store his few possessions.

But then one day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, the smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened: Everything was lost. He was stunned with grief and anger.
“God, how could you do this to me?” he cried.

Early next morning, however, he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him.”How did you know I was here?” asked the weary man of hisrescuers. “We saw your smoke signal,” they replied.

It is easy to get discouraged when things are going bad. But we
shouldn’t lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in
the midst of pain and suffering. Remember, next time your little
hut is burning to the ground–it just may be a smoke signal that
summons the grace of God.

A woman came out of her house and saw 3 old men with long white beards sitting in her front yard. She did not recognize them. She said, “I don’t think I know you, but you must be hungry. Please come in and have something to eat.”
“Is the man of the house home?they asked.
“No”, she replied. “He’s out.”
“Then we cannot come in”, they replied. In the evening when her husband came home, she told him what had happened.”Go tell them I am home and invite them in!”
The woman went out and invited the men in”
“We do not go into a House together,” they replied.
“Why is that?” she asked. One of the old men explained: “His name is Wealth,” he said pointing
to one of his friends, and said pointing to another one, “He is Success, and I am Love.” Then he added, “Now go in and discuss with your husband which one of us you want in your home.”
The woman went in and told her husband what was said. Her husband was overjoyed. “How nice!! he said. “Since that is the case, let us invite Wealth. Let him come and fill our home with wealth!”
His wife disagreed. “My dear, why don’t we invite Success?”Their daughter-in-law was listening from the other corner of the house. She jumped in with her own suggestion: “Would it not be
better to invite Love? Our home will then be filled with love!”"Let us heed our daughter-in-law’s advice,” said the husband to his wife. “Go out and invite Love to be our guest.”
The woman went out and asked the 3 old men, “Which one of you is Love? Please come in and be our guest.”
Love got up and started walking toward the house. The other 2 also got up and followed him. Surprised, the lady asked Wealth and Success: “I only invited Love, Why are you coming in?” The old men replied together: “If you had invited Wealth or Success, the other two
of us would’ve stayed out, but since you invited Love, wherever He goes, we go with him.

Love is that orbit of the restless soul
Whose circle grazes the confines of space,
Bounding within the limits of its race
Utmost extremes.
Sonnet

“I love you because You’re a sweet little fool!”
The sweet little Fool

To have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part.
Solemnization of Matrimony.

To love, cherish, and to obey.
Solemnization of Matrimony

He was my North, my South, my East and West, / My working week and my Sunday rest, / My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song; / I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong.

W H Auden

The face of a lover is an unknown, precisely because it is invested with so much of oneself. It is a mystery, containing, like all mysteries, the possibility of torment.

James Baldwin

If you haven’t had at least a slight poetic crack in the heart, you have been cheated by nature.

Phyllis Battelle

Flowers are Love’s truest language.
Sonnet.

A broken heart is what makes life so wonderful five years later, when you see the guy in an elevator and he is fat and smoking a cigar and saying long-time-no-see.

Phyllis Battelle

For years [my wedding ring] has done its job. It has led me not into temptation. It has reminded my husband numerous times at parties that it’s time to go home. It has been a source of relief to a dinner companion. It has been a status symbol in the maternity ward.
Erma Bombeck

A Frenchwoman, when double-crossed, will kill her rival; the Italian woman would rather kill her deceitful lover; the Englishwoman simply breaks off relations—but they all will console themselves with another man.
Charles Boyer

I might run from her for a thousand years and she is still my baby child…. Our love is so furious that we burn each other out.
Richard Burton

Only love interests me, and I am only in contact with things that revolve around love.

Marc Chagall

You say that love is nonsense….I tell you it is no such thing. For weeks and months it is a steady physical pain, an ache about the heart, never leaving one, by night or by day; a long strain on one’s nerves like toothache or rheumatism, not intolerable at any one instant, but exhausting by its steady drain on the strength
Adams, Henry Brooks

Never let a fool kiss you or a kiss fool you…
Adams, Joey Lauren

Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together, but do so with all your heart
-Antoninus, Marcus Aelius Aurelius

Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is bliss, taste it.
Life is a dream, realize it.
Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it.
